Shin Splints are swollen muscles or stress fractures from repetitive actions on an undertrained muscle or overpronation of the feet. An aching pain will be felt on either side of the shinbone or lower leg muscles. Shin Splints are very common and usually heal on their own, but there are numerous ways to prevent them from occurring. If you think you have shin splints, you should rest your body and see a doctor.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Be sure to wear high-quality, supportive athletic shoes and supportive arch support insoles if necessary when you work out. Don't wear worn-out athletic shoes. Always stretch and warm-up before your work outs to prevent shin splints. If you have shin splints, you can ice the shin or take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory painkillers (aspirin or ibuprofen) to reduce pain. If you think you have shin splints, consult your doctor to find the best treatment for you.
SHOE RECOMMENDATIONS: Wear high-quality, supportive athletic shoes and do not wear them if they are worn out. We also suggest you wear supportive arch support insoles, like the ones below.
